I picked up this mug with the idea of using it while camping. My favorite camping mug is the one I use for backpacking because it's light, but the single-wall design doesn't keep heat very long. I was drawn to this mug because of the size and insulating ability. It's well made and feels solid. The lid attaches firmly and the sip hole cover snaps into place. The hinge consists of a metal rod between the plastic lid and cover, so it moves smoothly and should last a long time as long as it's not intentionally abused.The mug is wider than that name brand Rambler mug. The pictures show side and top views for comparison with the 24oz Yeti. Sadly, this mug is just barely too wide to fit a cup holder I got that fits quart plastic water bottles and the Yeti (see the picture; the handle would fit if only the base would!), but it will still be good in camp. I like the wide base for stability, plus it makes it easy to use for food, from filling to eating to cleaning. It easily fits a standard size can of chili with its two-cup capacity.The mug clearly is large enough to use for drinks and foods, so the big question in my mind was how well it maintained heat. I filled the mug to the inside line with water from a kettle and then set the mug outside on a table. When I added the water to the mug, it was 202F and the air temperature was 51F. I snapped on the sip cover to keep the steam inside. One hour later, the mug had received about 20 minutes or morning sunlight and the air was up to 52F. The water temperature had dropped to 164F. The lid was warm but the backside of the mug that was shaded was still cool.I had planned to continue testing at the two and three-hour marks, but it didn't seem necessary. The Yeti blows this one out of the water in terms of insulating ability. (When I first got it, I made tea with boiling water and made the mistake, after forgetting it and letting it sit for two hours, of taking a quick sip without testing the temperature. That burned and blistered the inside of my mouth, and that was with the sip hole open.) This mug kept the water hot enough to where I would take smaller sips but not hot enough that it's going to burn me. Given another hour or so, it would no longer be what I would consider hot, so I would say that this mug will keep your beverage hot for an hour or so, but the claim of lasting for 6 or more hours seems pretty far fetched. I'm not going to fault the product that much for this, though, since everyone makes claims and I've yet to find a cooler, mug, or other product that comes close to meeting them. A 38F drop in an hour isn't really very surprising.Overall, I'm not displeased with the mug. It will keep my camp coffee hot for a lot longer than my single-wall mug, and an hour seems reasonable for that purpose. It's a great size for eating a hot meal, too. It should be plenty durable for whatever abuse it takes when camping. I will happily use it for that purpose, and for my need the insulating properties are good enough.Excellent insulated mug if you don't need to carry in a car cup holder. I need it for use on a boat where I will use it on deck. I need a good (but not perfect) gasket sealing top which is easy to close/open and easy to drink from. I also need a cup which will sit securely on the boat dashboard without worry of toppling over. If it does fall it needs to be unbreakable.This cup meets my requirements perfectly. It's very well made. It keeps coffee hot for more than an hour. The outside of the mug is cool to the touch indicating the insulation is working. The handle is easy to grasp with two or three fingers. It has a non-slid bottom. While it's not totally leakproof in the sense you can turn it upside down with a full load of coffee, its' gasket sealing top prevents spills just fine.I also like that it takes 16oz's of coffee with creamer. It's a keeper for me at a reasonable price for a good quality mug. Don't waste your money on those brand name overpriced mugs.This insulated mug is much heavier than it appears. Including the lid, it weighs 15.6 oz and is its first noticeable feature, followed by the slightly textured metal surface. The flip top is durable and has a tightfitting silicone seal that ensures it's virtually leakproof. I filled it with water, turned it upside down, and after 30 seconds, only one drop appeared. The handle design offers plenty of room for large hands. It's dishwasher safe and keeps its temperature control promise. The 4" diameter could be problematic for some auto cup holders otherwise, it's perfect for travel.Excellent item very useful highly recommend!Yay! Hot coffee! I especially love the flip top lid. I find I have to open the flip top to get the lid off because it pulls enough vacuum (and as the air in the cup cools it contracts a bit also.)So coffee AND science!!!
